At least it makes us have a good laugh!!
Regarding the roads, I always complain because everyday I drive on a road which is in very bad condition (to me) but when I saw the pictures above, I thought "well, finally the road I drive on is not that bad"

And on the freeway, the road is excellent, but there are a lot of viaducts and bridges. The crossing onto and off them is very bad. I drove a Golf mk4 at about 190km/h and it had OZ 17" rims, on one hit they got deformed...
It's rally sad, but the 309 is quite comfortable so you don't get how bad the road actually is, until you have to change the shocks every 6-12 months.

Imagine, going 80-90 km/h and hitting a crater as deep as 30cm... It's a great wonder I never bended the shocks or even broke the trailing arms...

I want to invite you all to come visit sometime... The roads are bad, but the fun, women and food are quite excellent... And here you will see how we make do... The best mechanics work in their backyards... But we get everything done and have a lot of fun...

You know I went to some Eastern countries in the past (with my 309!) including Czech Republic and Slovenia and it was real fun plus people were very nice! You know in France we have these stereotypes about Eastern countries, we say roads are bad (well, at least this one is true

Serbia isn't as good as Slovenia in relation to cars, but we live better!!! especially the young, I can honestly say that I could never have had a better high-school time if it were outside Serbia. And at university it's even better...

Re: My 309GR 1.3 '86
It's quite the same in France. When I was a student, all students had old cars like Renault 5, Fiat Panda, Peugeot 205, Citroën AX (etc) and now they all have new cars!! But I know the reason: because young people love having beautiful things so they spend money they don't have and for a good car they loan money from the bank... That's what I call an easy life.

Anyway, how about some high resolution pics of your GTI? the interior and exterior. I do hope you still have it.
